Los Angeles (KLAX) - Situated on the west coast of the United States on the west side of the city of Los Angeles, LAX is the gateway to airports in the Pacific and the Middle East. With four runways, large terminals and a large cargo area, LAX is classed as one of the busiest and biggest airports in the world.
Inverness (EGPE) - Located in the north east of Scotland, Inverness is considered the capital of the highlands. Inverness airport is also the biggest airport in the north of Scotland. As well as serving the rest of the UK, the airport also hosts international flights.
Glasgow (EGPF) - Glasgow is considered Scotland busiest international airport, receiving flights from different corners of the globe, such as Europe, North and South America, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates etc. Glasgow Airport is located on the sites of the old Abbotsinch and Renfrew airports, Abbotsinch once being an RAF Airbase during the Second World War. Despite the constant density of activity at Glasgow, the airport still only operates off of one runway.
Prestwick (EGPK) - Being the second airport in the Glasgow area, Prestwick is actually the bigger of the two as it has longer runways and is bigger in terms of surface area. This was an airbase during the Second World War and was usually a stop over point for American bombers and fighters to refuel before or after tackling the vast Atlantic Ocean. Today, Prestwick is the largest cargo airport in Scotland and has the longest runway of any airport in Scotland. As well as being an airport, Prestwick is home to RNAS Prestwick, a naval search and rescue helicopter squadron. Additionally, as well as being an international airport, PIK is also a military base and handles military aircraft belonging to the RAF and many of Britain's allies.
Heathrow (EGLL) - London's Heathrow airport is UK's largest and bussiest airport. In world rankings, Heathrow is known as being also one of the world's bussiest airports. The density of traffic at Heathrow usually means that there are aircraft taking off and landing every twenty seconds. London Heathrow has five passenger terminals, the newest being Terminal 5 (T5), belonging to British Airways. In addition, Heathrow also facilitates a large cargo area, a royal suit and maintainence hangars for bmi, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. Despite the density of traffic, Heathrow only operates off of two runways, 09R/27L and 09L/27R.
